Well, Sunday at Refuge Farm launched early! Temperatures in the mid-60’s, lovely sunshine and life is pleasant. As you know, we had been thinking about Next Steps for life in the Country. The transition from working farm to something they apparently call “independent living,” which is a pleasant term for something else on the inexorable path to something that is neither. You can see where we are in the process of the Porch Project, an effort accomplished by some Peruvian-American skilled craftsmen. We like it, generally, and you can see if gives us the ability to sit out front and watch the other residents and equestrians buzzing down our shared country road.
There are a few details remaining to be cleaned up, and they key to it naturally is finding the green-painted steel roof to unify the look as a stately residence. That means accommodating some supply chain issues that stretch from Virginia’s Piedmont region to Shanghai, and a variety of minor inconveniences that seem to go with the coming global financial crisis. So, there are a few details to be worked out, but first things first, you know?
As you may have noticed, the real estate market is having a bit of a wild ride. The supply chain part of it has a certain universality for new construction, but thankfully the new back-up propane generator was installed before this all began, and we think we have discovered a source to complete the roofing project early next week. If so, we will be able to start investigations on Phase two or three of the project.
What that actually entails is part of it. We will keep you posted on how it goes from here, but having a horse property suggests that having a decent barn, good stalls, fencing and verdant pastures is a starting point in an uncertain market. More as it comes- the first calls already started, and the Ukrainians are invited for lunch!
