Life & Island Times: Vengeance

Editor’s Note: One of us was on Dr. Fauci’s SARS-1 team twenty years ago and recalls being lectured by him on the dangers of lock-downs and over-reaction to that disease. To avoid restrictions on US biological research, the Good Doctor moved the operation overseas. To China.

Author’s Note: I’ve been thinking about how one half of our new Congress is going to spend the next two years and started to pen these opening scene Hollywood movie treatment elevator pitch words. It’s about vengeance for a wrong that was steeped over nearly four decades that finally bubbles to the surface.

After five minutes of work, I read aloud what had been typed on a single screen and said to myself, “Naw, that concept’s too far-fetched, even after the past three plus years of beltway screwball.”

Narrator voice over

November 2019 shall never, ever, be forgotten! Or at least it should have one fine memorial sometime in the future.

Our story begins, as these stories often do, with a topped out senior government functionary who had deeply hidden political aspirations. He’s a committed, if not devout, undercover commie and a second-tier member of that country’s ruling sciencey elites. He’s completely single-minded and has no regard for what passes for science or political process. The more power he attains, the more obvious his zealotry and the more aggressive his supporters become. Eventually before that fateful Fall moment, unkown to his supporters, he launched a special project in the name of national health security. At first many years earlier, it was believed to be a search for biological weapons of mass destruction — super bugs — and was pursued without regard to its cost or skills of those who do the work.

However, the true goal of this project was power. Complete and total hegemonic domination. The project, however, ends violently. But the efforts of those involved are not in vain, for a new ability to wage war is born from the blood of the victims. Imagine a virus, the most terrifying virus you can, and then imagine that you and you alone have the cure. But if your ultimate goal is power, how best to use such a weapon?

It is at this point in our story that along comes a spider: He is a man seemingly without a conscience for whom the ends always justify the means, and it is he who suggests that their target should not be an enemy of his country, but rather the country itself. Three targets are chosen to maximize the effect of the attack: a school, a large city subway station at rush hour, and an old folks processing plant home. Several hundred die within the first few weeks with no one suspecting new agent of infectious death.

Fueled by the media, fear and panic spread quickly, fracturing and dividing the country until at last the true goal comes into view. Before the xxxx’s crisis, no one would have predicted the results of the election the following year, no one. And then not long after the election, lo and behold, a miracle! Some believed it was the work of God Himself, but it was a pharmaceutical company controlled by certain party members that made them all obscenely rich. A year later, several extremists are tried, found guilty and executed while a memorial is built to canonize their victims. But the end result, the true genius of the plan, was the fear. Fear became the ultimate tool of this new government, and through it our politician was ultimately appointed to the newly created position of xxxxx.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Can I prove any of this?

Why do you think I’m still alive? No, not that — I’m just an old man who still spins screwy tales for his children’s children’s progeny.

Vengeance is best left to the old and wily who know how to do it exquisitely . . . stealthily . . . impeccably . . . while maintaining their harmless caring shrinking grandfatherliness.
