Some of our Shipmates have found themselves in retirement in the lovely hills of Carmel, California, where one of the great annual international automotive events is starting to unfold. Exotic cars of indescribable elegance and fame are displayed amid the playground of the stars as this summer season displays its glorious peak.
Just a quick reminder for those who enjoy the romance of rolling metal and the people who created them in the years of triumph over vanquishing the economic woes of Depression and the scourge of international conflict. Bill’s sons attended the National AMC show down in Petersburg, Virginia a few weeks ago. It was a memorable encounter with Rambler folks, some of whom still love George Romney’s vision of a practical, efficient means of travel in America.
This show is something special and quite personal. The folks in the Hoosier AMC Club had a relation with Bill for a decade after their first Indiana car meet in 2002. It was a new centiry then, and they invited Bill to get involved, based on his time on Romney’s team. He stayed engaged until his death in 2012, and his kids are still fans of the great Hoosiers who keep things running- and rolling!
If you are in the Mid-West, it is a grand event and worth consideration as this remarkable summer surges through the peak of warmth and good cheer!
