Taps: REBECCA L. “Becky” BURKHALTER

03 December, 2016 REBECCA L. “Becky” BURKHALTER, in Annapolis, Maryland, surrounded by family. Becky was born Rebecca Ann Robinson in Pensacola, Florida on August 28, 1937. Her parents were Elvera (Boyette) and Henry Robinson. Becky graduated from high school in Sanford, Florida and went on to the University of Hawaii. While there she met and married Lt. David B. Lloyd. Becky was widowed when Dave was lost at sea in the USS Scorpion (SSN-589) disaster.

On June 3, 1972 Becky’s life was changed forever. She married VAdm Edward A. Burkhalter, Jr. (Al). They enjoyed many wonderful years together raising children, traveling and working side by side. Becky was frequently involved in charitable activities benefitting Navy families. Becky had a strong faith; she prayed daily and attended Sunday Mass at the Naval Academy Chapel. We are confident she has been rewarded for her faith and good works. Becky wanted to be sure her obituary included a tribute to Al – “He is a great guy!”

Becky is survived by her husband of 44 years, Al, and children, Clay (Gleanna) Burkhalter, David (Melinda) Burkhalter, Liz (Steve) Smith, Wendy (David) Eck, Sue (JD) Baldwin, Mark Burkhalter, Holly (Mike) Bosman, Ted (Susan) Burkhalter and Chip (Kristi) Burkhalter. She was greatly loved by them all, as well as by her 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 1 p.m., at the US Naval Academy Main Chapel, with interment to follow in the Naval Academy Cemetery. If attending, you must use the entrance at Gate 8 at the Academy and have a photo ID as well.

On behalf of Becky Burkhalter, donations in her memory may be made to The Benedictine Foundation, 14299 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD 21660. Online condolences may be left for the family at:
