Life & Island Times: Faster Bikes

Editor’s Note: Marlow’s last outing of this strange year. Time for a little reflection. And aged Whiskey.

Happy New Year!

I’m an old school motorbike rider, you gotta understand
You can see my eyes are clouding over, my face no longer tan
Stooped back and gait hobbled by too many miles on my iron horse
The road showed me a lot, so I got few things to say, of course

I was pencil thin, skinnier than a potato chip
Not even plates of spaghetti kept biker jeans on my hips
Now sadly today I am a bit thicker
And on the throttle a lot less quicker
So when young ‘uns ask me now about the mysteries of life
I don’t hem or haw, I look at em and simply reply
“It’s faster bikes, smoother roads,
Aged whiskey, and more money”

I grin and try to hide how much my back’s in pain
I know I should say, “It won’t do any good to pray for peace and rain.
Peace and rain are just another way to say prosperity,
And fairy tales are in the end all they are to me.”

These words ain’t poetic but they’re the honest truth
Youngsters with souls on fire will call me a liar
They don’t care for bikes, whiskey,
Smooth roads or the loot

Well, some’re disillusioned, after I say my little piece
They look like they wanna grab me and jerk me to my feet
When their pie-eyed days are over and their bodies hurt them as mine does me
I know they’ll see the peace and truth of my long ago words’ reality

“It’s faster bikes, smoother roads,
Aged whiskey, and more money”
“It’s faster bikes, smoother roads,
Aged whiskey, and more money”
