Swamp Postcard: The Miasma of August

The heat and humidity linger as September looms, but there was actually a hint of chill in the air when the roosters next door started to get going a little before five.

I like it. There is no possible way to roll over and tap the rooster on the head and go back to sleep. Oh well- the new crop of lambs were separated from their mom’s over the weekend, and the blessings of disappointment were as loud as human babes.

The heat and humidity brings a powerful earthy smell, just like The Swamp. Not unpleasant, just rich enough to recognize the process of entropy.

The farm is good for that- a little distance from the malodorous waters of the Potomac. There was a lot of malodor over the weekend. Having a wonderful time, though. Wish you were here.
