Swamp Postcard: Political Health

Well, here is a week that I have difficulty in understanding. I mean, I might have seen something like the hearing yesterday, but if so, I can’t remember it. We appear to be on the verge of something that is so vast that it (almost) defies my comprehension.

I read a note from a progressive pal that outlined the steps that need to be taken to remove the Chief Executive, since he will not accept the results of something that hasn’t happened yet, while a conservative associate is equally vehement that there is a plot to steal an election by a means of voting we have never seen before, and apparently improvised only weeks before it happens.

The experts are saying it may be days- or weeks- before the totals are known. That is just another aspect of the current plague administration by which state officials can order their citizens to stay under virtual house arrest. There are threats to remove an administration that fails to abide by whatever happens in the bails and bails of paper ballots.

There is talk by some public figures that action must be taken about something that hasn’t happened yet, though it is unclear exactly who would order it and who would comply.

Sigh.

I confess to being hopelessly locked in some other American Century. Maybe it is all hysteria and this isn’t happening, and the routine will prevail. As a product of a system that was imperfect but usually worked, I am left in a state of bemusement. It is enough to make me wonder if there will have to be a Roman numeral applied to our national history when this is all over, or if it will work just as advertised. I guess we will have to see.

Another progressive pal noted that the period between the election and the inauguration is fraught with peril. I never thought I would see something like that. Strange times, aren’t they?

From the country, things look fine. Warm, puffy white clouds amid brilliant sunshine amid the lush greenery. I will wait with interest to see what the city folks do.

Having a wonderful time. Wish you were here.
