Putting the Fun Back in Dysfunctional- 2021!

010221
I just typed it for the second time. The new number still sends an electric thrill up my gnarled knuckles. Finally, 2020 is behind us and all will be well!

I think that was the second use of an exclamation point for this bold new year. It was exciting! (Third time! Is there a limit on them?)

So, there was actually was a story that took some time to generate yesterday, but it is consigned to the purely local archives for reasons of security in the new year. Today, I looked back at whatever it was we were thinking just twelve months ago. (Is there a limit on them?) Then, I started boldly: “I am almost ready to engage in the madness that will continue through the election next year. It will be entertaining, sans doubt, but the vitriol already pouring forth is quite remarkable in my decades of government service and private contracting.”

Last January, I went on to ruminate about some of the things that seemed likely to happen. It is sort of charming, since those mild slightly apprehensive stirrings turned into a vast lumbering machine composed of days and endless weeks. Up until this morning I was able to defer concern on the last teetering relics of 2020- the gray clouds and chill rain, the Senate contests down in Georgia next Tuesday, the Joint Session of Congress next Wednesday, and finally the very real possibility that someone (Is there a limit on them?) will be President in less than three weeks even if they are still counting everyone living in Georgia who voted, including those who are not and did.

I was concerned a year ago about the status of the crushed ice machine here at Refuge Farm, so there is a certain relativity to what we view as important. And pending.

Last year, I looked forward to reporting on “the next two wild years.” I take comfort in the fact that I was alert enough to not anticipate things would be over by this morning. As I said last time, “There is a lot in play, and a lot of splish-splashing to come from our Swamp Creatures.”

I think I was right on that. Keep a towel handy. More fun to come!
