Marlow: Seen at the local US Army Base’s Class Six store this morning

Editor’s Note: Amazon delivered two huge boxes filled with recliner chairs this morning, two days early in the storm confusion in Virginia’s Piedmont. Quite roaringly efficient. There is some other unsettling stuff going on around us. Climate Change is one of them, of course, and all the rest of the new Emergency culture in which we live. The Impeachment hearings are a hoot. The plague update is back to “wear two” masks after briefly saying one is plenty. We are in a new sort of world. The CDC Director can appear on TV with the official banner of the organization behind her and have her statement described as a “personal opinion.” Maybe that was about schools. I get lost in the emergencies and have to put the chairs together. I am glad Marlow can still get out to the Class Six store on base.

Author’s Note: As the TSgt from the Army’s 1st Ranger BN of the 75th Regiment at the gas pump next to me said at the time “Some people can’t let it go.”

I agreed and penned the below when I returned home.

LIT-021121

Country was rollin’ and tumblin’, we laughed the whole night long
We were rollin’ and tumblin’, we laughed the whole night long
Woke up one March mornin’, we must have bet our money wrong

We got plague troubles so hard, we couldn’t stand the strain
We got plague troubles so hard, we couldn’t stand the strain
Some sloppy Wuhan lab shut down our country and our brains

Vaccines were growin’, glowin’, gleamin’ in the golden light of day
Vaccines were growin’, glowin’, gleamin’ in the golden light of day
Pharma boys weren’t holding nothin’ back, even DC cain’t get in their way

Well, we did all we knew just to keep from losin’ our minds
Well, we did all we knew just to keep from losin’ our minds
Well, we paid and we paid, our sufferin’ hearts were on the line

Well, we got up each mornin’ and we went downstairs to lay in the shade
We got up each mornin’ and we went downstairs to lay in the shade
We ain’t nobody’s house boy, we ain’t nobody’s well trained maid

By May we’s flat tapped out, plague been drivin’ us to tears
We’s flat tapped out by May, plague been drivin’ us to tears
Plague and the politicians so crazy, not sure which one we ain’t gonna care about for years

Well, new year’s warm weather is comin’ and the buds are on the vine
The warm weather is comin’ and the buds are on the vine
Things ain’t so depressin’, life’s returnin’ to normal down here on the line

We got up this mornin’, saw the rising sun return
Well, we got up this mornin’, saw the rising sun return
Sooner or later, this plague too shall burn

Our night’s no longer filled with shadows, this year’s filled with early blooms
Our night’s no longer filled with shadows, this year’s filled with early blooms
We’re conjuring up all our lost dead souls from their crumblin’ tombs

Country’s gotta forgive each other, let’s go down to the greenwood glen
Let’s forgive each other, darlins’, let’s go down to the greenwood glen
Let’s put our heads together, let’s put old matters to an end

Now we rolled and we tumbled and we cried the whole plague night long
Ah, we rolled and we tumbled and we cried the whole plague night long
We woke up this mornin’, maybe we’s just been travelin’ wrong
