Life & Island Times: They’re in the wire

Editor’s Note: There is more excitement in an already exciting year! The Government is going to send me some of your money, while riffling through my wallet to send you some of mine. We are billing it to our grandkids. What could go wrong? Don’t ask the kids. Marlow has some observations of his own, and I will defer to his experience on this magnificent Piedmont Morning. We have come to an agreement with the large Black Cat who has assumed proprietary guard duty at Refuge Farm. She has agreed to not permit the buzzards to establish a nest behind the barn.

They’re in the wire

Example of a 2020 plague stimmie check

Your Refund or Stimulus Funds Are on Their Way blared the email’s subject line late last Friday night. Holy Crap was my initial response to this notification from my federally chartered credit union of long standing.

How did those beltway schmucks get my banking institution of choice and savings account routing number? I had never e-filed my federal or state taxes. Only the Social Security weenies and the US Navy’s pension benefit’s payor had that institutional data and checking account router. Neither of them had the savings account specific router. I didn’t authorize that data’s transfer nor its use.

I was now totally screwed once again. Only five brief years ago, did my investigatory files (which included all financial institution account info) going back to my father’s days doing classified US Navy research in the 40s get totally exposed by central government data administrators’ incompetence and Chinese hackers’ persistence. In the years that followed every one of my financial accounts was hacked and compromised by thieves and charlatans — one while I was on the phone line with this same credit union trying to stop the activation of multiple fraudulently obtained credit cards. Serious conversations with senior security folks at two institutions were held with them meekly assenting to my demands that they needed much better protocols regarding bad guy social engineering of their phone talkers and a host of other methods used to attempt the looting of my accounts.

So far so good . . . until now.

What possessed the government to hack my financial data and then convince that institution to tell me that they were about to get our stimmie checks is beyond me. The previous plague largesse was sent via paper check. Why not this tranche?

To whom do I direct my close air support request for snake and nape since my position has been overrun?

Meanwhile, the IRS still cannot tell me the status of our refund despite our 2020 short form 1040 being almost 5 weeks in their hands.

Happy Hour may come sooner than normal today.
