Arrias & His Muse: Still

Barking, growling, running about,
I guess it’s time to rise,
Puppies playing in the dawn,
I leave my dreams with several sighs.
She was so close, I held her hand,
We walked, we almost kissed,
Almost kissed as we danced,
Now gone, and she is missed.

Walk the dogs, then feed them,
Go about my chores,
And wonder where she is today,
Walking on distant shores.
Warm, sandy beaches under foot,
Tropical waters lap softly at the sand,
A warm sun rises quickly,
A golden glow bathes the land.

She sits near a gently swaying palm,
Behind her bougainvillea climbs a wall,
Fresh mango and coffee for breakfast,
She watches a sand crab crawl.
She was so close, she is so far,
Dear God, if I could but return,
Outside, a cold wind shakes the house,
But inside still… I burn…
