Life & Island Times: Boom, Ian Went, Boom

Boom, boom, boom, boom
Ian crushed Ft Myers right down
Right off of its feet
Ground it down into mincemeat
Blew away boats and houses, bittersweet

Boom, boom, boom, boom
Ow, ow, ow, ow
Mm, mm, mm
Mm, mm, mm, mm

Hated seeing its slow peninsula strut
Wiping out everything door to door
When it finished walking its Florida walk, headed straight towards me
Talking its trop-storm baby talk
Not liking its jive talking news talk

Oh yeah
Eff that Ian talk
Eff that Ian walk

Won’t walk its walk
And won’t talk its talk
Not gonna let em whisper in my ear
And tell me that it’s gonna love me dear

I hate today’s ghoul news video talk
When they talk that talk
They just wanna knock us out
Right off of our feet
Showing us endless ow-ow-ow-ow’s

We’ll finally talk our loss talk
And walk our clean up walk
Long after these hounds wipe clean their video boards of storm chalk talk
We’ll grieve our losses far away from their camera-stalk

PS: We have been sent from friends and family many scenes of Ft Myers’s devastation that pre-storm we knew intimately since the 70s from decade upon decade of pre-Ian visits, one of which was recent — two weeks ago. Perhaps sometime in the future we’ll share these post Ian ruin photos along with the reconstruction and renewal scenes.

PPS: Hat tip to John Lee Hooker for the above inspiration
