Life & Island Times: Feelin’ Alright

Editor’s Note: At Refuge Farm we had the weekly visit from the wound care lady. She looked at the covering over the ankle injury, inserted a glove-clad finger on the edge and popped it off. “Healed,” she said. There was mild applause that the one-year medical adventure was complete.

Author’s Note: We had over sixty trick-or-treaters last night after missing the past two celebrations. Lots of adorable firsties. All but a small handful were accompanied by parents.

We and our flickering monsters lovingly scared the crap outta some of ‘em. One almost catapult launched himself off the porch when he spotted a looming, silent, orange-faced monster swaying over the porch railing towards him.

Our last T&T eve in 2019 saw more than a hundred.

After a long wait we’re finally feeling good ourselves about this new brief new old normal.

Halloween 2022 — Park Avenue side garden

Halloween 2022 — Park Avenue front porch

Seems we finally got a change of scene
Cause last night kids had the strangest dreams
No longer imprisoned by the way it could have been
Left out here on their own or so it seems
They got to beg before they started to scream
No more locked doors and thrown away keys

Feelin’ alright
Kids’re feelin’ real good themselves
Feelin’ alright
We’re feelin’ real good ourselves

Boy, they sure took us for one big ride
And even now we sit and wonder why
That’s when we stop thinking of them
We stop ourselves from crying
No more wasting our time
We gotta keep tryin’
We done stopped believing in all these lies
Because there’s too much to do before we die

Feelin’ alright
Kids’re feelin’ real good themselves
Feelin’ alright
We’re feelin’ real good ourselves

No more getting too lost in all they say
But at the time you know, we really felt that way
But that was then and now we know it’s a new day
We can’t get stuck so guess we’re back to stay
‘Til someone comes along and takes our place
With a different name and a different face

Feelin’ alright
Kids’re feelin’ real good themselves
Feelin’ alright
We’re feelin’ real good ourselves
