Breaking News: A Lady Passes
Senator Dianne Feinstein Dead at 90
California governor Gavin Newsom will appoint her … READ MORE
We will keep this note short and respectful to the memory of a woman who cut a wide swath through the political chaos of the time in which she lived and served. There is no urgency in recounting her accomplishments in the Senate or the City of San Fransisco. She graced the Senate since 1980 and before that two terms as Mayor of what was then the delightful city by the bay.
There is a legacy of accomplishment that should be celebrated, but the impact of her life as a Senator at this moment has direct impact on whether the government of the United States is going to shut down at midnight tomorrow. We will see how the Governor of California sorts this out, but will undoubtedly appoint a fellow Democrat to fill her seat. But this sad event also highlights the ongoing controversy about the age of some of our leadership. It is a bipartisan area of concern and one that includes the Presidency, Minority Senate leadership and other key members of our government.
The Senator’s passing will usher in more discussion on that issue. It will also have an impact on whether our government continues to operate. But in the meantime, we salute the life of Senator Diane Feinstein, and wish for her to rest in Peace.
