Trial Runs

US Fleet Forces Commander Admiral Daryl Caudle is the leader down at the World’s Largest Naval Base in Norfolk. He took the Memorial Day break to announce some troubling activity. He said he had observed an uptick in attempted penetrations at US bases by foreign nationals= from places like Chechenia, Jordania and China.

It was troubling, but we saw the admiral had combined a few other pieces of information we had been tracking elsewhere. A journalist named Jennifer Van Laar had a piece in Red State yesterday that seemed to contain had some elements desribing some sort of trial run. Her article talked about an incident down in North Carolina that speaks to the “What is Happening Next” part of the daily confusion at Socotra House.

We try to stay abreast of the national and global messaging streams here at Socotra House. The Boss wants us to follow what the people in the information complex want us to believe, and why they want us to believe it. . The international ones have their own elements of intrigue on which we no longer enjoy complete context. The ones here in the US are largely wrapped up in the struggle for power in the coming election.

The story Jennifer was dealing with contains the collision of multiple streams of messaging colliding in a small event that reflects part of the struggle for power here in America as part of another larger struggle with will outlive us all.

Anyway, this one was her means of highlighting an element in another stream, which is the string of reports about unusual happenings. Here in Northern Virginia, the story broke a couple weeks ago about something that had happened a few weeks before that. It was a fairly routine report about a couple men who attempted to gain access to the “Crossroads of the Marine Corps” down in Quantico. They were denied access and detained for examination.

That is where the story gained its own legs. The two individuals were not US citizens. They were apparently Jordanian nationals of unknown status here in America. They claimed to be workers for Amazon with a delivery to be made on base. That seemed to be bogus, and the matter of intrusion thus posed an unanswered question.

If the two illegal aliens from a middle-eastern state adjacent to a conteroversial conflict in progess used a fraudulent story to gain access to a US military facility, what did they wish to accomplish?

There were no reports of malicious materials found on the men or in their vehicle, so it was not a disrupted direct attack. Was it a simple case of tourist curiousity? A reconnaissance mission for a future mission?

That element of messaging had its own internal characteristics. The men were held for a while as investigation continued. Young men of illegal status used to be held pending resolution of their status, but those days are past. They were released unspuervised a few days later into the nation to which they had intruded.

Jennifer had no information on where they are now. Maybe next door. Her story was about another odd one, which was the apparent surveillance of a Special Operations solder’s home near the Former Fort Bragg. That is part of another messaging stream, since General Brxton Bragg was a Confederate officer whose name had been part of a generational reconciliation while some of the veterans of the great conflict still lived. Their children- both sides- decided to live with one another and live in peace.

Now that they are all passed, a new generation is taking a trial run at erasing old wounds from injuries they did not suffer. They have their own messages and motivations that help shape the other streams of information. We are taking a trial run at understanding it, but it has to be viewed from the underside of the deliberate policies that have been put in place without much public discussion.

The Border situation is an example of someone else’s trail run at transforming our nation. There has always been a pourous nature to the 2,000 miles of the frontier with Mexico. There has been fairly rigorous enforement of a formal “boundary” for many years, at least after Pancho Villa was chased back south of it.

Recent policy- the one clearly in violation of US Immigration Code- has been to open the border to anyone who shows up and claims they were mistreated in the place from which they came. The total number of those people may be around ten million since the policy began.

It is hard to imagine this as a deliberate action by a sovereign government. More perplexing is that the total includes thousands of military-aged young unaccompanied males from places like China. As veterans, we at Socotra House are naturally sensitive to the idea that a body of people that could constitute a military formation in readiness is now here, and apparently have all been released on their own recognizance.

So, we have assigned the group to try to follow the little stories that could, added to one another, give us an idea of what might be happening next in the weird global struggle. The one is progress combines elements of the old religious-political-imperial wars that destroyed the old empires that had destroyed the ones that predated them.

Our trial run this morning? Naturally, we are concerned about the presence of unknown young men illegally present in our nation. We will keep an eye on it. But more importantly, we think we will take a trial run at attempting to understand why we seem to be following a path to disaster, you know?
