12 June 24 Weather Report
Morning, Gentle Readers!
The weekly report is not “weakly” presented!
There is more Law Fare news bursting out all over! With the Trump verdict reverberations signifying the mixed results on that front, the news shifted to the matter of the Hunter Biden affair up in Delaware. It is hard to follow the intricacies of this whole matter. The Laptop From Heck has surfaced again, providing evidence that there was substance abuse on both sides of the firearms purchase, so from a pure legal perspective, a verdict of “guilty” would have been non-controversial. Except for the family, and the active participation of the DoJ in making some of the charges expire on statute-of-limitations grounds.
Those are the ones that were by-passed for another fellow recently becoming a “convicted felon” on 34 counts based on 3 unspecified felony crimes for expired misdemeanor book-keeping entries. The State Legislature of New York had to pass a special exemption to extend the alleged book-keeping violations to enable State prosecution on charges for which it had no jurisdiction. Results were mixed. One side now has the ability to portray the former President as a convicted felon. Those two words cost a few hundred million dollars of taxpayer and personal funds to achieve, and immediately produced hundreds of millions in donations the guilty party on the grounds he had been railroaded by venal politicians who use the legal process as its own punishment. The sentence will be pronounced “in four months,” or just before the election, so the Campaign status may well impact either the timing or duration of both.
Once the election is done, with whatever result, there will likely be pardons for all concerned except the ones who could potentially challenge them.
So, today we have Hunter Biden’s convictions on three gun charges. It is portrayed as a demonstration of the fairness of our judicial system, and that “no one is above the law.” The max possible sentence is 25 years, but as a “first offender” he is likely to get much less. First Lady Dr. Jill was able to harness Air Force One to jet back from Normandy to attend the proceedings.
There are more woes confronting the First Son, these being alleged tax violations in California.likely to be pardoned after the election is resolved. He has a tax matter coming to trial in California. His Mom flew ir Force One back from the Normandy commemoration to attend the trial in Delaware. Russian warships- equipped with hyper sonic missiles- steamed 25 miles off Florida to arrive in Havana, Cuba, later today. With NATO providing weapons to Ukraine that are hitting targets inside Russia you can see there is the potential for miscalculation. The rest of it? Hard to tell what is real and what is campaign. Expect surprises with the current polling showing panic among the incumbents…that someone might do the same to them.
So, there is the chaos in what used to be a fairly energetic four-year cycle of government. It seems part of all this is long gone, a transformation that was announced but the results not fully understand. So, we will see how this goes. It seems unlikely to lurch back to something normal, but of course we retirees are just along for the ride.
Other rides in progress? The Israelis continued their offensive on the other side of their nation from Gaza. Yesterday, they hit a target in south Lebanon at a village called “Jouaiyya” that killed three Hezbollah fighters alongside the senior field commander named Taleb Abdallah. We need to keep “Hamas” and “Hezbollah” distinct, since they are on other sides of Jerusalem, but both are funded by Iran, using money provided by Washington to strike Washington’s ally in the middle. We know. Confuses us, too.
Curious situation. Meanwhile there is the other, longer duration conflict in Ukraine. The Normandy invasion anniversary added some strange historical context to the fighting there. Se, even as European elections show a rejection for the Green agenda that has driven the New Zero policies that are deflating the EU’s economies. We may be seeing something similar here, since our dynamic Government took $7.5 billion in appropriations and produced 7 charging stations for Electronic Vehicles that it expects to field more than a hundred million in eight years. It seems wildly improbable to the observers here that anything except inconvenience or currency collapse is likely to go along with that Bold Thinking, but no one asked us.
In fact, no one seems to be asking much about anything anymore. We could ask the Russians, we suppose, since they just paraded a task force of warships just hull-down on the horizon from Florida. They are reportedly capable of carrying hyper sonic weapons of some sort, so this is supposed to evoke memories of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Or something. As you can see, we are just trying to sort out what the messaging is intended to accomplish. One side appears pretty committed to retaining power. The other side appears to want to achieve it. We took a poll for the group out on The Patio. We were unable to find the box in which to initial the “Good Government” option.
In fact, we are not completely sure if that is one of the questions anyone is asking.
