All the stuff on the slide above is in progress. A part of the campaign chaos here included some coverage of the NATO show in town. One headline read:

“Biden awards Medal of Freedom to NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg”

We saw part of the event on the flatscreen, at the suitability of this event for our Chief Executive to carry out ordinary affairs. We were afraid the medal might drop, but all went well despite our minor apprehension. We try to keep up with the messaging streams which we are pummeled, so we are awaiting the announcement of the next Really Big Public Emergency that will require temporary, brief and effective suspension of some traditional rights. No problem-o, we say at the picnic table. .

The other top searches this afternoon were about
“Extreme Heat waves broiling planet in 2024′

“ast twelve months have broken record like never before on Earth…’

There was another headline that crackled some interest over at “What’s Up With That,” a climate blog we have been following for twenty years with their analysis of the Science and the Messaging about climate issues. Their headline was a little difference in tone:

‘Carbon dioxide and a warming climate are not problems…’ Naturally, we were startled, since this lack of emeergency would leave us breathless and able to think about things. The article that followed was from journal is the American Journal of Economics and Sociology. it is a paywalled journal, but the lengthy free Abstract is as clear as the title. Here is the conclusion:

“Observations show no increase in damage or any danger to humanity today due to extreme weather or global warming (Crok & May, 2023, pp. 140–161; Scafetta, 2024). Climate change mitigation, according to AR6, means curtailing the use of fossil fuels, even though fossil fuels are still abundant and inexpensive. Since the current climate is arguably better than the pre-industrial climate and we have observed no increase in extreme weather or climate mortality, we conclude that we can plan to adapt to any future changes. Until a danger is identified, there is no need to eliminate fossil fuel use.”

So, pick your headline. We are headed off for what we hope is a footnote to yesterday’s successful cataract surgery.

It makes us want to burst into song, you know? So, here it is for this morning, Gentle Readers” “Here’s looking at you!’
