Never Mess With…

Another morning in the cavalcade of chaos that has enveloped us all this year, regardless of which side of the aisle on which you seated, and of course whether your chair is facing the front or rear of the room in which the seating is placed.

Did you forget there was a GOP Convention this week? We had successfully done so until pointedly reminded yesterday that there could be a development of some minor consequence there- where is it being held? it has been going on since Monday. Oh, right

There has been discussion about all these folks as being on the ticket with presumed nominee Donald Trump. Ohio’s J.D. Vance, author of “Hillbilly Elegy” is said to need to shave in order to improve his chances. Marco and Tim both have valuable intersectional qualities, as does Elise. Doug is reported to be smart and well-versed in energy issues. His selection might be a valid one based on merit, but that no longer has much compelling weight in our new political landscape. But that is a minor factor in what is apparent chaos in the other side of the ticket formation.

We will know about that by tomorrow. The storm, of course, is on the other side. The one Napoleon provided age advice about a long time ago. It saddens us a bit as American voters, but ‘optics’ have as much to do with our elections as the ‘issues’ in which our future swirls. There was discussion about that in some sources, combining Napoleon’s advise and optics, which could include two white guys against two women only three quarters of the same ethnicity.

We are following the events with interest. It is apparently that the candidate who has secured the necessary delegates to ensure his re-nomination may have some issues about serving effectively now, not in the next four years. That this fact is only being revealed now while being denied for years is a matter of some of the controversy, since only the immediate family appears to be steadfastly defending his legacy, but also his future. Out more precisely, their future.

Now that the issue is out on the table, panic has risen about the potential that even with a resurgence in confidence, the existing replacement in the Vice President has even more issues and uncertainties for those who have been running the nation since 2020, whoever they are.

So, that is the state of play this morning with decisions to be made about both the tickets. Of course there is more. The NATO leadership is here in toewn attempting to figure out how they will adapt to whatever America’s choice in leadership will turn out to be. Their governments are lurching left and right, reflecting the unease of both wings of opinion in which the “middles” seem to be left behind.

That is part of the background noise here in Washington. In addition to the NATO meeting, the other conflicts on immigration, voting and crime all linked together. There is an internal struggle in the government over the impact of the Supreme Court Decision season, and attempts by the Legislative Branch to impeach members of the SCOTUS Bench with whom they disagree. In an event only loosley related, two US Marshall officers were parked on the block where Justice Sotomayor resides. Part of their presence was to provide security, but instead, their shiny late-model vehicle became the target of an attempted car-jacking.

The event did no end well for the attempted car thief, but represents the second incident of armed incidents in immediate proximity to the homes of sitting members of the Court.

So that is the sort of week this has been with more to come before the weekend. How the democrats choose to address their candidacy conflict will be exacerbated with each day it remains unresolved. Their decision to either continue the incumbmant’s lead on the ticket is complicated by polling that indicates the traditional successor is less popular than he is. But complete replacement of both will leave resentment for key segments of the Party Base.

That would result in a traditional American political response of “doing the right thing” with the “best remaining alternative” with the goal of fixing the ticket with electable candidates for the next general election in 2028. That is the way things used to work, but in the new techincal society of instantaneous digital connectivity, that may be longer than some are prepared to wait.

We wish mistakes on no one, and hope for the best for all of us. That is another sort of antique thinking. So we re going to be watching with interest on what the new system is going to produce for us all. Together. Whether we like it or not.
