Another Storm

The wood is still, not a breath of air,
Thick clouds, dark gray on gray,
Dawn is still an hour off
When the first raindrop falls today.

One lone songbird greets first light,
In the distance a dog barks,
The trees so still, painted on the clouds,
Else the wood is quiet – no remarks.

The air so heavy, like a thick wool blanket,
But about me the air seems to sing,
No thunder yet, but the dogs are upset,
They know, soon comes the lightning.

We press inside, feed them, brew tea,
Into the office, earlier than norm,
I put on some music to calm their spirits,
Another summer day, another storm.
