Fifteen Minute County: Saturday’s Monday
The Holiday-made Monday tempo collided with Saturday and there was dislocation in the air, some attempting to relax and others underway with the list of things that need to get done. Some Black Friday stuff to wrap up. A stop at the Credit Union in the chill set the right mood. Awake.
Also the storm of stuff about to happen. DeMille had a cursory Zoom call for the small group to see if there was anything important to understand or whether it could sort itself out in vitality on Monday. There is a bunch of it and some pretty visceral. The grinding reality of the two struggles in progress is part of the change, and that has Melissa alert for what is happening in a neighborhood with a lot of work-from-home government jobs. Lots of movement, or at least preparations for it.
So, the thing DeMille did was authorize a streaming charge for the movie that had been out in the campaign. It had been billed as a puff piece on Reagan starring Dennis Quaid that had some interest but was sidelined effectively. Until something like what happened then is happening again only with better production values.
That was on in the background in the Conference Room without direct attendance. The other stuff was about GOPE, the effects of which folks are starting to feel. Some have groups of overseas people in town before the holidays for academic reasons but their continuance or emphasis is a matter of discussion with increasing vigor.
Splash and Rocket had been talking about the change in emphasis between the bitter grinding ground action in Europe and the lessening of direct action in Lebanon. And how that went with the emerging conflict with China and the vast illicit oil trade with Iran and the mingling of environmental and military interaction afloat.
So, “Reagan” is a great watch to help maintain a little focus. Things have been emotional before, you know? This one is an interesting version.
“Mr. Gorbachev, Tear Down This Wall!” was one of the lines we saw on the way between the Patio and the galley. Rocket has stood on part of it, or what was that one. Vic said there was a pub he used to drink in built on the wall built by Hadrian. Talk about building a new one in Ukraine for peace gives it some useful context.
