Where the Tide Is Running
“US Strikes Yemen!”
That was what was up on the screen in the Conference Room, boldface, when Splash walked in to rinse out the last of yesterday’s coffee in the squadron mug he uses.
“Is this something new?” He looked groggy, apparently not realizing an Aegis cruiser USS Gettysburg had just shot down one of the Navy jets that hit the targets in Yemen overnight.
Both crew were reported as being recovered safely, thank God, but it was a sharp reminder about operating in busy places at hundreds of miles an hour while sitting atop a small rocket that will activate if some other rockets has detonated somewhere nearby.

The two ‘V’s- Vic and Vapor- know our first reactions to everything is based on their experience and hence probably incorrect. So, as we start to cast our eyes to what the new year will bring, we have hope to overcome some perfectly understandable human behavior that could be mistaken for something unusual.
Both had planned strikes like the one on the news, and thus knew what they thought was wrong. This is actually a quite refined series of events, executed in a powerful and ordered spectrum. As military planners, the idea of being ordered and empowered to do what the Israelis have done is breathtaking.
We have added to it this morning in Yemen, but this is several steps down from where Mr. Netanyahu started. Remember the compromise the entire database of the Iranian nuclear program?
That was now back at the beginning of the current absentee Administration, right? Then the Gaza attack, and then the systematic elimination of the organizational charts of the people in Gaza and Lebanon and Syria. And the alert about Great Socotra Island.
So you can see where this day is going, the first one that will be a little longer. That gives us hope. And maybe things can get back to some peace for a while. We intend to pray for those in conflict and hope for a good New Year.
With peace in troubled places that- in our experience- resemble San Diego on a sunny December day. With fewer rockets.
