Arrias & His Muse: Mermaid

Author’s Note: I had a great dream – did not want to wake up… My Muse working at it, as sailors you perhaps might appreciate this.

Arrias & His Muse: Mermaid

Naked she sits upon a large, flat rock,
Perched on a tropic shore,
Off shore, waves pound the reef,
Serenaded by the sea’s distant roar.

A warm breeze stirs her long blond hair,
A glimpse of a perfect breast,
She smiles at me and taps the rock,
Shows me a place to rest.

Who is this lissome sea nymph,
Her Siren’s come hither looks?
Were we not warned from days of old,
Is she not spoke of in Homer’s books?

Who is this mermaid in the flesh?
Do I really care?
She sits before me and smiles her smile,
As if an answer to a sailor’s prayer.

Her smile lingers, her eyes flash,
She sings her Siren’s song,
No Verdi aria can compare,
No sailor is that strong!

There is no wax for my ears,
No crew to lash me to the mast,
Who would want to resist?
I rush to her at last!

In her arms I yield to her,
She promises we shall never part,
She wraps me up in her arms,
My Mermaid has my heart!
