Arrias & His Muse: Ordinary Heroes

Author’s Note: “My Muse is angry, I think…”

– Arrias

Ordinary Heroes

Heroes can often be found in the damnedest places,
In a cockpit, in a trench, in all sorts of cases.
Fact is you never know who will be dealt the cards,
Could in fact be anyone, even thirteen border guards.

Border guards not soldiers, maritime safety you see,
Watching merchant traffic to provide security at sea.
Suddenly confronted by a large warship,
Without any weapons, no hope and no script.

They could have surrendered, knew they couldn’t win,
It would be understood, certainly not a sin.
But they stood their ground, their time was now,
Freedom or death, they would not bow.

They stood their ground, they did not yield,
They would not bend, their souls were steel.
At the mighty warship they did scoff,
Remember this always: “Russian ship, Fuck Off.”
