Arrias: Snowflakes

Editor’s Note: There was some mild controversy at the Fire Ring this morning. Splash was up and agitated, waving his arms and gesturing with all his digits. He was talking about the apparent collapse of the trial against the Michigan militia group that had plotted to kidnap the Governor of Michigan. It turned out the agents of a federal bureau outnumbered the plotters. Or, as Loma noted, actually were the plotters. That lead to a series of mutterings about other events that appeared to have the same general ratio of stalwart Government agents to the number of dangerous right wing fanatics who had been recruited…by the government. We checked with Legal since the Chairman was resting up for a determined run at the New Year, which is arriving without external assistance. And thankfully, this poetic piece from Arrias lightened the foggy morning in Virginia’s Piedmont. We can deal with the Year of the Tiger when it roars in…

Snowflakes

Fragile and weightless, cold, but friendly,
Giant snowflakes settle softly in the night,
Touching my cheek, cold gentle kiss,
A delicate, cheery, winter delight.
Porter stops and looks up, as the snowflakes fall,
They settle courteously on her nose,
Two more steps, she halts, watches them settle,
She freezes in place, as if striking a pose.

The slightest hiss as the flakes flutter down,
Nothing else moves, no sights nor signs,
No other creatures stir in the darkness,
A peaceful silence among northern pines.
It seems the whole world is still fast asleep,
Not even the first light in the east,
Limitless potential awaits the dawn,
But for now I’m alone, just me and my beast.
