Life & Island Times: Comfortably Dumb

Hello,
What the hell are you up to?
Someone, please nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?

Come on
Now
You say we’re feeling down
You can ease our pain
Get us on our feet again

Relax
We need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show us voters where we hurt?

You offer
Open borders, let them all in
We’re from the government and here to help
With aches and pains you’re all feeling
Identity politics’re not a sin but salvation
One insurance plan for all, no private plans please, for a renewed nation
Higher taxes for all, free college and loan forgiveness
Reparations, abortions and most of all bigger pie portions
Oh yeah, and free health care for the new illegal alien immigration

But we still feel no pain that you say needs treating
Bad times are a distant smoke on the horizon
Two dozen of you are coming at us in waves
Your lips move
But we can’t understand what you’re saying

When you were kids did you have a fever
Did your hands feel just like
Two balloons
Do you have that feeling once again
That would explain
Why we don’t understand
Might explain the jam you’re in

You, not us, have become comfortably dumb

O. K.
By recent counts, there’s two dozen of you little pricks
When will you stop saying “BOHICA,” open wide and say “aaaaaaaah!’
You keep saying the nation still feels more than a little sick

You’re still standing up there
And believe what you say is working
Good
That’ll keep you going through another TV show
Come on
It’s time for you all to go

We have no pain, your messages are not succeeding
Socialism’s burnt hulk’s smoking on the horizon
Yet you still keep coming through in waves
Your lips move
But we can’t understand what you’re saying

When you were kids
Did you catch a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corners of your eyes

Or did you turn too late and look but it was gone
Can’t put your fingers on it now
Communism’s children are dead and gone
That pipe dream’s time is done
You . . . not us… have become comfortably dumb
