Coming Attractions
The Writer’s Section at Socotra House LLC was apprehensive this morning. Well, we are often in that transitional state where one thing could indeed lead to something else. So, we have been watching that, but with direct association with Pirates and Zombie, large well fed fowl and friendly potatoes, and then a rising chorus of praise for objects that might be offered at a manger.
We were concerned about yesterday, since the magnitude of the holiday observations often extends to a larger number for full accommodation. “8” and “12” refer to the number of days in two of the faiths we observe. Or the ones observing us.
There was controversy over Boxing Day, since there is a pugilistic context to the words, and boxes to be filled up, and needy folks to be handed some of them. But the furor of Holidays around this darkest few days of the year. So, in order to justify continuing full-scale holiday routine today, a detailed calendar examination was conducted. Splash and Rocket were directed to tay away from the last Belmont Farms box. We knew what was in there, and they had devoted most of yesterday afternoon to disposing of a tall rectangular box from the Belmont distillery. That approach was effective for them, anyway, but mimicked the way the rest of us felt. Some celebrants had completed whatever they considered “Boxing Day” minutiae and decided to add the “feast day” commemorating the sacrifice of the First Martyr.
This clearly was going to lead to days without designated holidays. The Government is here to help, though. In earlier times, the Day after Boxing Day was referred to with exactly those words. We knew there would be confusion at the brunch table.
The Legal Section should be mentioned here for their diligence in filling in another list of merriments to some. Here are some they compiled from Government, Commercial and Social sources. terminology is necessarily precise. Some holidays are fleeting, gone in a momentary ‘huzzah!”
Others are part of longer events connected in narratives and seemingly celebrated over weeks- if not years. So, here is what the legal Beagles tell us we need to deal with today:
2023 Holidays on December 27, include:
Free Balloon Day – (SpongeBob Squarepants)
Howdy Doody Day
Make Cut Out Snowflakes Day
National Fruit Cake Day
Visit the Zoo Day
That is hardly a complete summation, the Zoo trip being a way to slide into Happy Hour almost unscathed. One of the challenges is keeping track of the “dailies” that “include” weekly observance. For example, we are still counting Christmas birds right through the 5th of January! And don’t get us started on the monthly mantra!
2023 Weekly Holidays that include December 27, are:
Christmas Bird Count Week – December 14, 2023 – January 5, 2024
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over (Winter Enforcement) – December 18, 2023 – January 1, 2024
It’s About Time Week – December 25-31
Kwanzaa – Evening of December 26, 2023 – January 1, 2024
Tie One On For Safety Campaign – Runs November 23, 2023 through January 1, 2024 (Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day)
2023 Monthly Holidays that include December 27, are:
There are too many monthly holidays to include here, so please check the ones we could jumble together for our January Page to see all of the holidays that are celebrated the entire month of December.
We apologize for production delays, but this may be of assistance in planning the rest of a grand Holiday afternoon!
