Despite the Shut-Down, Dinner Was Great!

If you were looking for some thrilling medical adventures and a chance to meet our small version of the Covid contagion in Patient Zero. We extend our apologies. We were aware there was a continuing budget problem as we juggled the production schedule. We want to avoid crisis saturation. Let’s just take a quick stroll around the wreckage of yesterday and the possible implications for this evening.

So, here goes. Senator Feinstein passed away. That adds some complexity to the deliberations of a Senate which only had a one-vote margin. If we have a Government shut-down, Goldman-Sachs and others in the finance community have said, overnight, this could go on for weeks. That will increase anxiety all over. What is more astonishing is the “Continuing Resolution” remedies being proposed are only good until the latter part of November.

Which to say there will only be a break in this part of the hysteria before coming right back. Meanwhile, the concentration will be on Midnight tonight.

Beyond midnight tonight for excitement with the other stuff? It is all percolating out there. Some of it has thirteen month timelines related to the election. But all of it does. The Endless Campaign is featuring some rumors about RFK Jr. declaring his candidacy for a Third Party run. He would be a moderate candidate (we think) but there is also a candidate further toward the spectrum in Cornell West. So, we are going to take a bit of a break from well-considered analysis of significant public policy issues. Instead, we plan on moving Happy Hour up to something closer to lunch.

That brings up some other excitement from yesterday, which is the delightful Porchella shredded-pork-on-Weck sandwiches over at the Green Pig Bistro. We dispatched a retrieval squad to collect a bag of them with sides of cole slaw, potato salad and spicy horseradish sauce. Chef and owner Tracy O’Grady came out of the kitchen to make the formal presentation of the take-out order.

Despite everything else, the dinner was excellent!
