End of the World (as we know it)

100715-1

I was scrolling through the messages this morning, marveling at the fact that as constructive paying labor has diminished, the discretionary time has done the same thing. For goodness sake, it is past noon and I am still in my bunny slippers and wondering if I should shave.

Then I realized that if I did not get something put together, I might not get to it, ever. I saw this teaser in a note that Van Dyke sent me:

The World Will Be ‘Annihilated Forever’ Today, Claims US Christian Group

…an online Christian group has made the remarkable claim that Wednesday is going to be our last day on earth. This latest apocalypse prophecy comes on the heels of ‘Blood’ moon annihilation theories, wherein several Christian groups had interpreted the unusual pairing of a lunar eclipse with a super-moon as the surest sign yet that our end was near…

You can read the whole story at the Inquisitr (No, it is not a typo!), if you have time, though of courseit is entirely possible that you may not.

Anyway, on the off chance that the apocalypse grabs me before the cocktail hour, I thought I would put things in order. I made a couple lists, wondered if I should get a haircut in case there is an inspection at the Pearly Gates, or Gates of something else, and decided not to bother with it.

We are going to attempt to get the band back together again, and visit Lyon Hall at cocktail hour. I confess the place is starting to grow on me, though of course there will never be a real replacement for Willow. That took an investment of years.

And if the world is going to end, I hope it is after we get home from the restaurant.

No one has told the busy workers out on what used to be the pool deck. I should think if they knew they might want to be home to be with their families, but in the meantime I am impressed with the amount of destruction they have wrought. Joe and Jane both had their patios crushed, and the debris carted away. Joe has the re-bar laid for the new concrete to be poured, and I am optimistic that I will be able to put his table back when it is cured:

They are trenching around the thick cement of the pool, and all sorts of ancient things are being brought up out of them to be replaced with PVC piping, which should last another half century, assuming that the sun comes up tomorrow:

The landscape looks a little like Fort Douaument during the battle of Verdun, with fighting trenches all around.

Joe’s patio has been a priority part of the project- they may try to complete the intrusive parts of the re-construction before the owners go completely batshit.

This was Monday:

This was this morning with the re-bar already in place, ready for the concrete pour:

I am looking forward to the demolition being complete and the jack-hammers to go away. But of course, if the world does end today, I am not going to have to worry about it anyway.

If nothing dramatic happens, I will tell you all about tomorrow.
