Fifteen Minute County: Parking on Leaves
The morning started out more quickly than usual. Thursdays are a weekly peak with the only regular group session before lunch. Though mostly Zoom, in the space they called the conference room in the suite that has also been a condo and an apartment.
So, that part of the pitch was simple enough with the big nominations in some controversy near our interest area, some of which are being outlined at important positions lower on the confirmation ladder need to be noted. That had the four Boomers who were currently in the fifteen minutes- Vapor, Splash, Rocket and Vic- in an agitated conversation about something that had nothing to do with this transition and whether or not it had anything in common with that other one they served through under Carter and Reagan. Agents of organizational change.
But that wasn’t what had them going. The new Yankee aircraft carrier has arrived in the traditional USN homeport of Yokosuka, a busy naval complex on the Tokyo-wan estuary. It was a home, of sorts, for several years among them, so news from the Waterfront there gets them going. This one had resonance due to how they lived out there.
USS George Washington’s crew and associated aviation personnel are on temporary liberty restriction. It is an imposition on some perfectly reasonable activities in the shoreside communities, so this was nothing new but did bring back other times with similar announcements.
This one was reported as prohibition from consumption of alcoholic beverages on or off base, which was interesting. In other times, drunken sailors were permitted under moderate supervision. And no overnight liberty, which is something they lived.
So, that discussion was going on in the background with respect to the young people who are dealing with it right now.
Kristina dropped this one on her way over to Marymount. It was blip about the leaf problem. Some in the management circle have been dealing with it for as long as they have dealt with Rhianna down at the front desk and Leo’s building management crew. Leaves, that is, the piles of which accumulate downwind on the SW corners of the towers.
This was different and now a County-level issue, bridging personnel finance decisions about the Class Six store over on base the VABC at the corner. This one was about cars and personal safety, a matter of immediate concern for the Scooter component of the work force.
Apparently, the strong northwesterly winds from the recent Lakes Effect storm blew them around here in the last scrub on the trees and tucked them up in the wheel-wells of the cars parked in our neighborhoods.
Where some of the electric ones burst into flames. That is not alarmist, just a matter of precaution Legal says only makes sense.
So, she claims it is an emphasis area that could come with additional credits to monthly production if she balances the impact of tech change- electric things that are not fully compatible with the current social order, Or could be depicted with a bight logo wry or ironic aside.
We are almost giving up on that, but DeMille has been assured things will settle down just as soon as this transition activity is done. That is only a couple weeks, right?
So here is the public service announcement Legal claims is legit: “Neighbors, please be mindful of parking your car on top of leaves.”
