From the Sea, Back to the River

To be clear, the Sea we are talking about is the Mediterranean, and the River refers to the Potomac that flows at the end of Route 50 in front of the Socotra HQ at Big Pink in Your Nation’s Capital.

Faithful author Arrias thankfully spared the Socotra Writer’s Section the effort of generating a thoughtful yet mildly ironic thought piece this morning. It was an appropriate way to begin a new week with in a newly minted month. We anticipate Summer will arrive on the 20th, with our planet hurtling through the vastness of space and we welcome the change. We are naturally excited, and want to be prepared to provide our usual multi-faceted appreciation of the messaging in progress in this historic year.

In order to accomplish that mission, some of the Salts gathered to don old ceremonial gear from our last trip to the Holy Land of the three Patriarchal Faiths, or Palestine, or the Capital of Jerusalem, whichever it was at that moment in time. We wanted to be prepared and purchased the garb from Palestinians near the old Jewish Quarter before climbing the Hill to pass respectfully the Dome of the Rock, constructed atop the ruins of the Second Temple to prevent the construction of a Third.

We are pleased we thought ahead, since a review of the digital traffic on the laptop screens this morning featured tales of strife with unusual participants. One note described a mixed vocal reaction to an address made by the US Senate Majority Leader on a visit to New York. Both ‘cheers’ and ‘boos’ were evoked from a modest crowd. Another message captured an account of a modest clash in Philadelphia between Pride Month Marchers and pro-Hamas QueersforPalestine Mostly Demonstrators. We don’t claim to understand it. It evoked a discussion of luminaries of the media suddenly expressing diverse opinions. Ones we have previously been told to accept but now are told to question by folks like Bill Maher and Russel Brand. They used to be comedians, we understand. We forget what they were making fun of, but will don whatever hats seem appropriate for an attempt at balance in a thoroughly unbalanced world. We accept our role as witnesses and want to have the appropriate headgear.

The point being that the messaging is changing and we want to be prepared. Forward!
