Front Row Seats

13 July, 1960: John F. Kennedy nominated for presidency.

Here we go again. In this moment, the emotion is too profound for comment. The minutes were electric as Mr. Trump disappeared from view, and we thought in horror that a situation that was already bad had somehow just lurched into something much worse.

The laptops slid aside on our lawn-chairs as on-screen Secret Service agents surrounded the vacant podium, and there was one of those Long Minutes before the former President was helped to his feet. It seemed, for a moment, that this might just have been another one of those podium moments to which we have been subjected since that day in Dallas long ago.

Moments passed as word from the flat screen began to say…”shots…” “Blood above the ear…”

He appears alive. That is the moment, and we are giving up on this day. We cannot write any more. We hope we can sleep.
