Hold Our Beer
OK. The messaging is getting complicated this afternoon There is the usual jumble of stuff overseas which has direct ties to the Campaign in terms of who does what to whom and when. Yom Kippur has passed as a direct moment, though the days around it carry significant meaning so specific timing is not required. The big response to Iran’s missile strike hasn’t happened yet.
Or at least not in the spectacular manner some expected. Word from Iran this morning claims it may have happened as a massive cyber-attack that hit Iranian government sites and nuclear facilities yesterday. Abolhassan Firouzabadi is the former Cyber Czar over there and claims the attacks were by Israel on Iran’s government branches and nuclear facilities.
That is an issue in White House messaging streams and Israel policy, so it may be a new form of deadly warfare. Capture and exploitation of cyber resources has provided webs of precision targeting that changes the nature of response to an intensely personal one to accompany dropping clusters of high rise buildings into tunnel complexes.
This may be in intermediary strike until the election is determined and the US course of action regarding Ukraine and Iran is determined and assume some transient equilibrium. Whew. And as to the Chinese issue, the Navy is attempting to demonstrate the capability to reload the vertical launch tubes on our Aegis-equipped cruisers and guided missile destroyers.
We naturally applaud the initiative, since trouble spots like the southern Red Sea with the Houthis rockets and Iran’s missile strikes indicate we may need to be able to keep mobile missile defenses in a place they are needed without having to return to port.
The idea that there might be a similar need for places like Taiwan suggests we might want to pay attention. And be able to fill the tubes in the ships that will be there.
And the Campaign? Goodness. Two former Presidents have made appearances to shore up support in civil rights and union areas that have traditionally been nearly universal in support. The change provoked discussion, since if resources are being spent there what are the internal perceptions? And if they are that negative, could there be a growing realization that something more dramatic might be needed?
We have the feeling there are people out there who are saying: “Hold our beer.”
