In Memory of Harold James Greenlee
February 18,1951-August 10, 2024
Harold James Greenlee left this world for another on August 10th of this historic year. He left at peace, surrounded by those who loved him. The family joined yesterday under the rich blue North Carolina skies to lay him to eternal rest, surrounded by those who knew and loved him in life.
Some came from as far as Jackson, Wyoming to honor his memory. Mike and I, cousins, came from Massachusetts and DC, rolling across the rich greenery of Virginia to cross into the land of the Tar Heels. His sisters and his own children were in from the Sunshine State to pay him honor. It was a blessed morning to share in laying him to eternal peace.
“Hal” is the name by which we knew him, though he might have preferred the shorter “G-Dad” from those who looked up to him from closer range. His adventurous spirit, quick wit and stubborn determination were remembered by the family in their tribute, and the recitation of the 23rd Psalm
Love, laughter and adventure are the words to describe his life. The touch of the red soil on our hands, joining the soil to which we will all return left us with both a tear. And a smile.
More about a short but moving trip through today’s America after some contemplation and rest.
Rest in Peace, Hal. We will miss your spirit in this world but will see it in the next.
