Let’s Get Ready for Fall!
We are breaking the sweltering heat of the fullness of history today. It has been twenty or thirty days of stultifying warmth. The flat-screen has been whimpering about triple-digit sweat for weeks. The weather-guessers have been giddy with reports of mildness that could last more than a week, and our pal, president of the Hoosier American Motors Company Club are getting ready for the big show in September by sending along a nice photo of the Rambler Ambassador Station Wagon our Dad, William Edwin Reddig, designed for George Romney’s automobile company 65 years ago, fins and vibrant color complete.
We happpened into accidental but intentional possession of the sleek wagon after my brother Mike found that model in Florida, and drove up to Virginia for a Convoy Classic drive out to the annual show they run in Indiana for Rambler fans. We drove it together out to Indiana, basking in each stop for gas or wave on the road, They named it for Dad, whose contributions to those years of sheet metal design helped define new trends in the industry. You will note the little “notch” on the roofline that enabled the design to save critical dollars on the fabrication of the stamping blocks and make the car a profitable model.
Brother Mike is still active, though I am now mostly getting around with a cane. We donated Rosie to the Hoosier AMC Club, and I am trying to figure out how to attend the 2022 Bill Reddig Show. We have come to find some of America’s great Car Folks out in Hoosier Country, and hope to see a bunch of grand frieds in just a month or so. If you wish to experience something unique in our car culture, this is a great opportunity to experience our rolling past.
Hope to see you in Peru, Indiana on 17 September 2022! Rosie, featured above, is going to be there to help celebrate Dad’s contribution to the Rambler marque!
