Life & Island Times: Ch-ch-change, chump change
We here in the Empire have been treated to lowered gas prices for some time, since our state leaders passed a gasoline tax holiday almost three months ago.
Here’s a photo (taken this morning) of one such service station along a
nearby Georgia route where the average low-test gallon price range is around $4.30.
So, it was with wry amusement I watched our beloved PresBid beg Congress on national TV yesterday to do the same for the piddly-assed Federal version of those taxes.
All I could do was silently say “Wow.” At $.18 per gallon, that’d rack up some serious savings nationally like $72 vice $75 for the weekly 15-gallon tank refill. All told for the proposed 3-month long rebate period that’d rack up $36 per family car. Almost enough to take the family to Arby’s for Waygu Beef burgers, fries and Cokes.
Meanwhile we watch the DC folks crawl to Saudi Arabia to bail us out and berate and threaten US oil companies.
Yeah, that’ll fix America’s oil supply and refining issues.
Off in the distant background we’re hearing David Bowie croon:
Still don’t know what we were waiting for
And our time is running wild, a million dead-end streets and
Every time we thought we had it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So we turned ourselves to face us
But we’ve never caught a glimpse
Of how the others must see our faker
We’re much too fast to take that test
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes, don’t want to be richer men
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-changes, just gonna have to be different men
Time may change us
But he can’t trace time
Oh yeah
