Life & Island Times: Road to Paradise

Author’s Note: As the fools on the Hill rush about, dragging their final beltway bills of 2022 to an uncertain finish line, we the people take our time to holiday.

Their warnings of an Apocalypse, if they don’t get what they want, fall upon deafened ears, minds, hearts, and souls.  We scoff at their claims of foolproof plans and orderly schemes to life’s problems.  We know their broken promises lead to roads to nowhere and their solutions don’t mean anything.  But it’s all right with us.  We’ve got other plans.  We won’t come inside and sit by their fake, fluttering aluminum foil strip firesides.  We’re out and about taking our rides to our own paradises, not their jive ones.

Tops on my today list is Xmas shopping for my beloved…

North Carolina Smokies tunnel on a depression-era,
Federal government funded, broken promise road to nowhere

Well, they think they know where they’re goin’
But they don’t know where they are or have been
And they don’t know what they’re not knowin’
So they can’t say what they’ve seen

But we’re not little children
And we know what we want
And we know the future ain’t certain
So we take our sweet time workin’ it out

We’re on a road to somewhere
Let’s go outside and take that ride
Takin’ that ride to somewhere
We’ll always take that ride

We feel okay each and every mornin’
And we know
We’re on a road to paradise
Let us go, let us go

We’re on a ride to paradise
Let’s go outside and take that ride
We’ll take that ride
While they don’t wonder where they are

Maybe someday they’ll wonder where they were or they are
We don’t care
Right now and here is where time is on our side
Take us there, take us there

We’re on a road to somewhere
(It’s paradise)
We’re on a road to somewhere
(It’s paradise)
We’re on a road to somewhere
(It’s paradise)

There’s a place in our minds
So come along and take that ride
And it’s all right, children, it’s all right

And it’s not very far away
And it’s growing day by day
And it’s all right, children, it’s all right

Wouldn’t you like to come along?
You could help us sing this song
And it’s all right, it’s all right

They can’t tell you what to do
But they sure’ll make a fool outta you
It’s not right, children, it’s not right

There’s no paradise in their mind
Don’t go along and take their ride
And it’s not right, children, it’s not right

And it’s beyond far away
It’s shrinking in the distance each and every day
And it’s not right, children, it’s not right

Don’t go along
Don’t sing their song
And it’s not right, children, it’s not right

They can’t tell you what to do
Plus they’ll make a fool of you
And it’s not right, children, it’s not right

They’re on a road to nowhere
We’re on a road to somewhere
(It’s paradise)
They’re on a road to nowhere
We’re on a road to somewhere
(It’s paradise)
