Living in the Whirlwind
You are living in the same cyclone of activity, so our usual morning blathering will be kept only to an observation of the raw power of the winds swirling and howling around us. We did not attempt to stay awake for the closing remarks at the Red-hued convention last night. The machinations of that process had been mostly predestined before the dramatic punctuation of an attempted murder of the principal actor in the tragicomedy.
It may be less dramatic than the events from Dallas 61 years ago. It did not result in the same stark horror. But the effect on the messaging of the moment is more powerful than a cyclone. We talked about some of the buffets in the larger circling blast this morning- the wreckage in judicial and economic systems we have permitted to occur. But we can get to those as the larger drama unfolds.
We read the transcript of the Big Speech given last night in the clear cool light of morning. It too was an article of emotive controversy on this calm morning. The orientation of the messaging sources that circled it predictably praised or disparaged the content. Our opinion, in the dozen or so scribblers around the table ranged from tears at the miraculous survival, and analysis of some of the exaggerations contained in the extended address.
Taken on its face, all the other controversy aside, it was a powerful blast of optimism. There is a swirl of uncertainty in all the winds. The incumbent President has been revealed to not be in command of the office for which he seeks. Those who have propped him up for a variety of interests, some admirable and some not, are revealed as avaricious predators, who now, we are informed, are to be trusted. Forgive us our doubts.
Some of the rumblings this morning is that question could be resolved as soon as this weekend, though the uncertainty of who- or what- will replace him only increases the tumult below the clouds. The messaging does not include any of the old and slower means by which these things were resolved with at least some visible to observers on the ground, looking up at the wild paroxysm in the heavens above.
Something will be resolved presently. We hope it will be a calming as this astonishing front passes through and we can begin to clear away the debris left behind. The image that introduces this momentary rumination typifies the collection of old ideas and the emanation of newer ones that have not yet reached their expiration.
We will see how that goes, and we are pleased to report that the means to correct our sight is still something that can be accomplished despite the severity of the winds that swirl in our faces.
