Editor’s Note: These curious times have caused reverberations in otherwise rational people who contributed their professional lives to this amazing, sometimes aberrant nation.

America’s Road
America set out on a narrow way many centuries ago
Hoping it would find its true self along what turned out to be a broken road
It got lost a time or two, wiped its brow, just kept pushing through
It couldn’t see how every sign pointed straight to here and this hullabaloo
Every long dream of ours led us to where we are
Others broke its heart, but they were just north stars
Pointing others along their way into its loving arms
This much I know is true
That God still blesses this broken road that leads them straight to the red, white and blue
I think about the years we spent just toiling and pushing through
We always find a way to get what was lost and give it back to the red, white and blue
So just smile and grab our hand, we’ve been there, you understand
America’s all part of a greater plan that forever is becoming true
Every long dream of ours led us to where we are
Others broke its heart, but they were just north stars
Pointing others on their way into its loving arms
This much I know is true
That God still blesses this broken road that leads them straight to the red, white and blue
Now let’s watch them just a’running home into its loving arms
This much I know, I know is true
Oh, God still blesses this broken road that leads them straight to the red, white and blue
Oh, God still blesses this broken road that leads them straight to the red, white and blue
God still blesses this broken road that leads them straight to the red, white and blue
Hat tip to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
