Marlow’s Island Times and Beautiful Minds

LIT060321-1

Editor’s Note: There is another torrent of interesting events in the morning harvest. With COVID restrictions passing
into the memory hole of national life, the streets are coming alive again and travel is possible. There are other singular events reported, citizens acting out in the smaller ones, and larger issues like the cyber-attack on the nation’s supply of edible beef. Following the gasoline shortage sparked by the Colonial Pipeline shutdown, some are wondering if we are not actually in a state of war against America’s infrastructure. One not acknowledged as something quite new. With that, and a dozen other oddities rising for our amazing future, Marlow and his lovely wife W decided to re-visit their former home in the indelibly limned shores of Key West. After their marriage, Marlow’s old apartment became available, and Socotra House rented it for about a year to ascertain the essence of the Conch Republic. The back bar at the Green Parrot is just one of them. It was a refreshing plunge into an alternate sort of existence, and one worth recalling. Here is Marlo’s take on the nature of returns.

Author’s note: As promised earlier, I worked up a few sample panfuls of our fortnight of island time during May. There was live music everywhere. It was marvelous.

Key West: Geiger key, Pepe’s Cantina, Schooner Warf Bar, Garden Inn Pool, Hog’s Breath, Captain Tony’s and DJ’s Clam Shack and Four Marlins

Sit down, they said
Join us at the table
Share some smiles, many cocktails and wine
Told each other many stories
Made us laugh and sing, briefly stopped time
And we entered a zone so sublime

We showed up at places with no reservations
Laughed and smiled, they banned blaring cable tv stations
Now these joints took down all their plague signs
So folks were sharing what was on their beautiful minds

We sat down for island friendship at any bar or table
We’re family down there, we’re all one tribe
What we didn’t know, I’ll keep it real short
We’re just candle flames flickering in fragile times
But with such flashing beautiful minds

Now these joints took down all their plague signs
So folks were sharing what was on their beautiful minds
