Mixed Messaging

We don’t mean to say it in a bad way. But it certainly is a jumble this morning, isn’t it?

Example: We had a big stir here in the Washington Post about the Northern Lights being visible here as a result of the current solar disturbances. You can see that is a purely relative display next to the one that came from the Cowboy State Daily. We read the contrast as a reminder of the vastness of all this activity.

The matters closer to home are fun and the messaging is amazing. If you intend to vote, we recommend getting it out of the way by the most secure legal manner you choose. It is a way to lessen some the desire to do something constructive. Now, for this circle at the square picnic table, the emotional urgency is gone. What is going to happen will do so without further action here. So, we intend to enjoy the show.

There are some remarkable streams of information in progress presented as revealed truths, and in distinct variance. One seems, generally, to maintain we should stay the course, whatever it is, and the other to say maybe we have gone far enough down this road that we might want to slow down and take a look at the GPS.

The fun stuff in the messaging is almost dizzying. CBS has a revealing string about what is branded as “journalism.” The Columbia Broadcasting folks were once termed the “Tiffany Network.” It was a reference to the jewelry store of some trust and renown based on the integrity of Edward R. Murrow. They have just been cited for editing the remarks of one of the candidates, altering them post facto to make them more favorable to the desired message.

That the matter is a passing issue is just a reflection of the magnitude of the change that has occurred. There are other currents in the torrent. Storm Milton might not have been as bad as predicted or maybe the response was better. Jury still out. Plenty of wreckage spread atop the one from last month and plenty of misery.

The Election? It is all about that matter, one way or another. In Virginia, a legal dispute was just announced about voting. It’s a little complex. We think it is about who is entitled to vote on the official registry which is now prohibited from challenge due to election interference laws it is intended to interfere with.

It is sort of mixed messaging, but we view it more as a tossed sort of salad. Like how accurate voter registration has become a matter of importance instead of a matter of fact.

Like the rest of the issues messaging, it is all a little weird to follow, but certainly entertaining.
