More Fun With Elections
This was a challenging morning in terms of data flow. We were up early and made an attempt to screen the incoming overnight message traffic. There are at least a couple news stories in play, all of them connected with the election circus that is supposed to culminate next year some time. There were charges of favoritism leveled at Mr. Garland for his handling of the Hunter Biden matter. That is the one dealing with three Federal firearms violations- alleged violations we should say- which carry a potential jeopardy of as much as 25 years in the slammer.
The Attorney General was dismissive of the questions from anyone not in the Administration’s corner, and we were grateful Mr. Garland was not responding as a Supreme Court Justice. The rest of the story? It provoked some of the President’s critics on the airwaves as incendiary in tone and generate support from the others. In that regard it was typical behavior from our elected representatives. We have a note written on the White Board in the kitchen reminding us that there were 4,000 “migrants” crossing the Texas border at Eagle Pass.
We assume the visibility of the Border issue has something to do with determining who is going to be running in the more formal style of campaigning that will happen next year. Whether we like it or not.
We have to remind the Writer’s Section each morning that there are reasons none of this makes a great deal of sense compared with the campaigns we have seen all our lives. With the Lawfare tactics on display, we appreciate things have changed dramatically. Losing an election now appears to carry the risk of imprisonment. That is sort of unusual, and could result only in people eschewing the sort of pell mell conflict that elections now represent. Would any reasonable citizen take a couple years to raise ready spending cash, travel like crazy and then be subject to conviction- expensive conviction- and at least a symbolic time in one of those concrete rooms in an orange jumpsuit?
Rep. Adam Schiff appeared to make a statement on the nature of Justice, which we all appreciated due to his demonstrated commitment to the legal system.
So, here we are. The word from Ukraine has fierce fighting in the eastern Oblasts. The Russians have shown weakness in tactics and leadership as Kiev is showered in weapons and aid. The Chinese and North Koreans have demonstrated their commitment to changing the global power order. The BRICs are interested in supporting a new fiat currency to replace the U.S. dollar. And we have more than a year of this to endure with all the future elections sharing the same characteristics.
Or was this the insurrection hearings? The news cycle this morning has delivered the word that the elusive Mr. Ray Epps, the fellow who was taped as he urged the demonstrators to penetrate the Congress, may be brought up on misdemeanor charges after some other protestors were nailed for felonies that will keep them off any street for decades. We will see how this all goes from here.
One thing is apparent. Do not go up against the Justice Department by yourself. It is likely to be ugly, expensive, and could come with a jail term. Forward! For Justice!
