Piedmont Dawn
Rains pelted the farm last night with vigor and a blast of sound and wind. The predictable decisions cast their shadow- raise the powered awning to avoid potential damage? If run up for storage, the cover from the blistering soggy heat would be saved from Nature’s passing wrath, but the seats at the outside table would be soaked and leave all concerned with sodden butts.
In the end, we left it down and watched the pelting rain in relative comfort. The planet continued its usual spinning motion and made the sun appear to rise in the morning light. It was then that Grace spied color on the sunflowers she had planted in the spring. A close examination revealed the one in the center of the back deck had made its own decision and commenced to blossom.
Considering the diversity of news in the morning harvest, it was an affirmation of life and living. The Writer’s Section at Socotra House LLC wrestled with joy and sadness at the news about a friend who confronts the abyss with his usual courage and equanimity. He has been an inspiration through challenge the last few years, and his example in this one is mirrored by the power of nature’s indomitable beauty.
If you have a moment on this glorious Sunday, a morning infused with the glory of this amazing world, please reserve a moment of affirmation for the life we have been given. And a prayer for those who confront its mysteries.
