Swamp Postcard: Electoral College Final Exam?
Breaking News! We may have a President, one of these days. We are in the midst of the excitement of final exams at College, the Electoral one, with the only key date being the 14th of this month. The Joint Inauguration Committee, split down the middle with the two major parties, was unable to declare Mr. Biden the President Elect, since he is not at the moment. Perhaps that will clear up by the 14th, which is what the College and Committee believe is their Constitutional duty.
The State of Texas has brought suit against the former battleground states of Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia for violating the same Constitutional provisions many of us believe in. It is fantastic fun, and I think it is entirely possible that we will seat a President who was the beneficiary of a process designed to be subject to manipulation.
Refuge Farm is taking it well. The decision on voting seemed clear, even if the rising sun burned bright with light. Some of us did cast ballots, and some of us didn’t, which was a conscious and reasoned choice, given the respective candidates. Follow-up investigation justified the decision. No ballot was cast for those of us who didn’t. Those that voted were reflected in official records as having participated with only one slight problem. They were not confident about who they voted for.
There was some modest turmoil here when the source of the votes that put our Congressional representative over the top was revealed to have been a thumb-drive delivered for tabulation late at night from a county far away. But that seems to be par for the course these days.
Anyway, all that stuff is something the farm is going to accept once the Supreme Court has a look at the facts available. We naturally retain our rights as citizens to ignore it.
So, with at least part of this puzzle lurching toward some sort of resolution, the sky above the Farm glowed as bright as fire, suggesting that there is warmth somewhere, maybe in Texas. Red sky at morning, Sailor! Take warning!
But here on the farm, the vote is unanimous: peace and hope will rule this tumultuous season. If that is also the result of this final exam, it will be great. But in keeping with the times, it is always possible the results can change if we don’t like what shows up the first time.
Is this a great country, or what?
Having a wonderful time! Wish you were here!
