Swamp Postcard, sans Card
Retirement is odd. I think it is Friday, a festive reflection of a work rhythm of all those years of schedules. Now this week I lost Wednesday altogether and it didn’t seem to mind. In the background is everything else, all swirling around like a Joe Biden interview.
So the Flynn thing blew up again. I worked in the circle around him, so this is of great interest and I am thankful I am no longer there. Then my old boss Jim Clapper was fast and loose with several things. I am glad I don’t work for him any more, you know?
It feels better on a sunny day in the country than it has been. No jacket required!
There is so much in play at the moment that is a little disorienting. Trillions of dollars in play…we never used the T word when we built the budgets. It was too big. But not so much anymore. I understand a million bucks isn’t a lot of money these days, but having a thousand of them is still a bit strange.
What are the consequences of the COVID adventure? I heard music and public address noise this morning. What are we supposed to think of groups of people these days? The divergent impact on sports, the theater and swimming pools in buildings like Big Pink? Warships? Will people continue to work from home? Is The Office a dying culture?
Maybe Dr. Fauci is right and the plague will return in the fall. A century ago the Spanish Flu had three episodes, the second of which was the deadliest. I used to stand near Dr. Tony in some of the press conferences during the SARS I pandemic, so some of this is familiar, even if it has gone much further in society than what we tried before.
I was in favor of quarantine back then. Funny how attitudes can change. Between the election and the return of cold weather, the plague could give another run. this could be a colorful Fall in all sorts of ways.
And maybe everything will be fine. Hope so. People seem to be busting at the seams.
