Swamp Postcard: Thanksgiving Plows New Ground!
Ah, what fun! It is important to remember we have what used to be an important national holiday tomorrow. Or not; it seems that California and New York have officially minimized the celebratory spirit. Other states have banned alcohol sales at 5PM local, since the former holiday used to be one that featured festive themes and family gatherings fueled with fun.
Trusted correspondent Marlow has contributed a wonderful story celebrating the former holiday, so stand by for a special holiday edition tomorrow! Despite the turmoil in our national affairs, we will continue the seasonal holiday here on the farm. It seems only appropriate that the Russians are coming for the holiday meal and share our thanks in this remarkable year.
Others are dealing with the celebration in their own way. Just in case the wind picks up on the West Coast, California officials have decreed “rolling blackouts” of electric power to help raise our spirits. They could have practiced forest management, but this is something that can be done from Sacramento and enable personal virtue signaling without personal inconvenience.
Our next-door birds came to call, hoping for fresh foodstuffs on Refuge Farm’s front yard. It was a bold jailbreak, and thankfully all but one survived. I would introduce you, but he is taking a break for brining and will be back tomorrow in an altogether more pleasant appearance and emitting a succulent smell.
I have been talking about the bacon-braided turkey breast, bathed in a honey-mustard sauce. It is a new recipe intended to provide a new tradition for a new style festival festival celebrated in a new way. Braiding the bacon adds something I have not done since elementary school, gently weaving the fatty long rectangles into a neat porcine blanket. More on that as it happens.
President-Elect Biden, who has not actually been declared the victor except by the media is not technically the President Elect, but he had the signs made and we may as well enjoy it while we can.
Coming up? The Electoral College will do something on the 8th of December, in order to do something else on the 14th of that month. I am confident that those in a position to do so are already at hard at work to make Christmas equally joyful.
I am happy to report that we are giving thanks for a grand life in a crazy episode of America’s history. It is the best darn National Emergency we have ever seen, complete with all the trimmings. As always, having a wonderful time, Gobble Gobble! Wish you were here!
