Swamp Postcard: The Great Reawakening
So, I may not be the most alert sailor at the helm of his little ship, but this is a big week. In many of the states, the Governors are reducing civic restrictions to ensure the plague is held at bay.
Life during the crisis down at the farm is essentially unchanged since the panic began, so I am hoping all future disasters are as mild. Yet the amount of money we poured into defeating the COVID will not do that, though it did do a lot of things not related to a public health crisis. Many otherwise rational people will fulminate against New York’s Bill De Blasio, America’s Worst Mayor, who enabled the virus to spread quickly and widely.
But the worst of that is behind. Now all we have to fear is the return of the plague in the fall, an international depression, and a Presidential Election. Should be an entertaining summer and fall as things rlly get going. I do not think I have seen anything like it in my lifetime, and I would prefer not to join the rising hysteria of the people here whose paychecks are derived from our money.
Oh well. My thoughts are for those who perished and their families, We could have been better prepared, but we knew that. I used to stand next to Dr. Tony Fauci at the SARS virus press conferences, and have a clue as to how the gigantic response works. But now we really have to get I ll started again. I wish those who will labor to get it done are ready.
But I also heard that some unemployment benefits were almost identical to the old average income of $54K a year- or an excellent incentive to stay home and relax- or run an off books enterprise. Reawakening will show what the real impact of the crisis will be.
This was an interesting spring and it looks like summer and fall will be savagely entertaining. As always, having a wonderful time. Wish you were here. Zoom is just not the same.
