I actually have a pal who lives in the Great Dismal Swamp, located down in Tidewater Virginia, and which, as his reporting indicates, is actually kind of pleasant. But we have hit some doldrums here due to the catastrophe in Florida. The national discussion about school security is so horrifying that it quiet literally sucked all the oxygen out of the room.

There may be some motion on preventive measures in the next week or two- but the discussion once more is veering off into the matter of the availability of semi-automatic firearms and the lack of a comprehensive mental health program for our fractious nation.

We have been down this road before, but there may be some things we can do to mitigate the consequences of the disaster that is public health in this country, soup to nuts.

Maybe things will get better. Never can tell. But in the meantime, things are interesting here in the Big Dismal.
