The Rift on the Right

There is some stuff going on. The small groups of people who still communicate around the media streams are concerned. Mr. Trump made an effort in the Mid-Term Melt Down, but some of the red press is now advocating we “move on.” I am interested in it for the various reasons. The Blues have a problem in candidacies coming up and the Red side seems riven between some modest good news from Florida and the ongoing six or seven years of Trump hysteria.

The matter has become irritating. Personal opinion is that if I had been under investigation by official parties with dozens of human resources- the Mueller thing had near 30 attorneys and FBI support folks- they would have found something on me. Or had the capability to fabricate something up good enough to indict. It was old four years when I heard Mr. Mueller say he had no knowledge of FusionGPS, the partisan private concern that was instrumental in creating and marketing the salacious “Dossier.” That was 2019, so the continued energy devoted to attacks on him would wear anyone raw.

I confess to voting for Mr. Trump twice. I will vote for him a third time IF he is the nominee against the incumbent. Now that Gov. DeSantis seems to provide a growing possibility as a replacement. I would welcome that, but my voting has never been a particularly emotional commitment to any candidate. These days, the criteria is simple. Who will do the least damage to our country?

That has been a useful tool all my voting life. I recall a vote for Bobby Kennedy in a school poll in high school, but otherwise have voted for sound government as best I could determine it.

What I had anticipated was a small Red majority in the House. That has been hanging now since Wednesday. Some general exercises in strategy have been made by those vying for potential advantage. One of the themes is for the Red to go on attack, issue subpoenas and attempt to set a blazing stage for the 2024 campaign that has already started. It is boring now, the varies memes in use all tiresome rehashes of ancient corruption.

What it also portents is a schism on the right that will enable the left to continue to govern. It has not been a pleasant experience for sound government.

That will undoubtedly happen, of course. Plus whatever else they have cooked up for us. Rational analysis suggests this will be a cold winter in Europe with tension. There was talk today about the deepening recession in Germany. That will drive part of a wave that has already started here. This morning it seems the Senate will remain Blue by a hair’s breadth.

If 2022 was a fun year, filled with vitriol, I have a feeling about 2023. It isn’t a particularly good one.
