Weather Report: A Storm of Horror

We were going to make the usual attempt at some commentary on the events of the week. There are several of significance. We did the research and were ready to present the developments in complex, evolving and potentially dangerous situations. They span the globe, across broad oceans from Ukraine to India. That effort was left hanging in the late afternoon with the numbing shock of the first reports from Texas.

We will not go into it now. There is nothing that can make sense of the swirl of horror emanating from the events at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The relative importance of issues in the other columns fade in the raw visceral knowledge of what happened in that 4th Grade classroom. We have a problem that is stark and immediate. Here and now.

We confess we are shaken. We have no gentle irony or caustic honesty to contribute. We are shaken by the repeated acts of severe violence by young men with evident mental problems which were demonstrated before their acts of savage violence.

The calls for action will not be much different than the ones that followed the Buffalo event less than two weeks ago. The talking points have not changed.

We have already seen overnight polling on some aspects of a proposed response. We have heard from the President. We will hear much more today, depending on how the media chooses to report it.

For us, in this peaceful country morning, we ask for some peace for those who loved those children. And, should there be any mercy left over, for us all.
