Discussion. We rose on The Patio to some bad news. A fellow up in Maine took out more than twenty other citizens for some reason known best to himself. We know more about him than other recent malcontents because he is suitable for framing as part of everything that is at issue in our social struggles. He is an Army veteran, carried a rifle with a scope and is caucasian.

We may be hearing more from, or about him, since we seem to enjoy publicizing those who commit some astonishing misdeeds. This is another in a long line of them. Meanwhile, the two kinetic conflicts are attracting attention with Ukraine still aflame as the Israelis poke at Gaza with an idea of retribution.

Those two events seem to blend together since they share a common motif of violence. Part of the narrative surrounding it all is about the nature of conflict, of the term “war” itself. And there is a third one of those building in Asia about the Taiwan Strait.

So, we will conflict these brief remarks and summary of the lunacy. Our Presidential Campaign lurches on for more than another year. China may provoke trouble inside the First Island Chain. Iran and North Korea are shoveling weapons into the mix. And all the other stuff is going on just as depicted. At least we have a Speaker of the House this morning and our government may start to function again.

Oh wait. That is how we got into this mess, isn’t it?
